Key Stage 1 Maths Overview

In Key Stage 1, students lay the groundwork for their mathematical understanding. Covering Years 1 and 2, the KS1 curriculum focuses on essential maths skills such as counting, basic addition and subtraction, recognizing shapes, and understanding simple measurements. Children also begin to explore concepts like time, money, and patterns, which form the building blocks for future learning.

By the end of Year 2, students will take part in national assessments to gauge their progress. These assessments include practical tasks, as well as written papers, designed to test their ability to:

Count, read, and write numbers up to 100
    Perform basic addition and subtraction
Understand simple fractions, like halves and quarters
Recognize and name common 2D and 3D shapes
Compare and measure lengths, heights, weights, and volumes
The assessments aim to ensure that children have developed a strong, confident foundation in maths, ready to tackle more advanced concepts as they move into Key Stage 2.

As student's approach the end of Key Stage 1, we ensure that they are meeting national curriculum objectives and accelerate them as much as possible to work towards being ready for their SATs and 11-Plus Exams in Year 6.

Benefits of Learning Maths Online

Maths is a unique subject. It requires perspective and visuals that a teacher’s words or drawings on a board cannot provide.

Online classes and the use of technology make mathematics engaging and fun, improving the outcomes. They also allow us to hire the best of the best tutors from around the UK.

Children can learn at whatever time that best suits them from anywhere in the world, anytime.

We have also found reduced anxiety, more interaction and better use of lesson time through online teaching. Plus every lesson is recorded and periodically reviewed by our Founder, Adil, who will guide your childs progress and keep you updated on their progress.
